Ikea Lakeside, West Thurrock
Our client had identified surface failures in the pick-up/collection area of the car park at their busy store. These failures extended onto the main access road and were creating potential health and safety issues.
Project Key Stats
Total Site Area
During the pre-start meeting, our client mentioned they had become aware that the design of the car park allowed drivers to cut diagonally across a pedestrian crossing, causing a health and safety concern for the public. It was suggested by NMC that bollards be installed that would force the traffic to use the correct route and avoid potential accidents. It was also recommended that several areas of marking should be refreshed.
To minimise disruption and protect trading levels the project was phased over three nights. Barricades were erected around the affected area and a full-time traffic management crew were on site.
An area of 2,279m2 was planed out which resulted in 210 ton of excavated material being removed from the site to a designated tip. A taker-applied coat was used prior to the surface course being laid.
The resurfaced area was machine laid and compacted. All joints were over banded with hot bitumen. All road and safety markings were relined. The job was successfully completed within the agreed time frame and the client was extremely pleased with the finished project.
