Project Overview

Objective

NMC was approached by our client at Two Rivers Shopping Centre in Staines to complete a full maintenance package of their entire car park, this included the drainage element. CCTV surveying the 250m of drainage and repairing damaged drains with no dig technology.

Tasked with using no-dig technology to install patch repairs and cured in place pipe liners to repair damaged drainpipes throughout the busy car park areas. Most of the work was carried out overnight by experienced specialists to prevent inconvenience to the public needing to use the car park.

Delivery

To minimise disruption the investigating and repairs were carried out through the manhole opening along each channel without the need to excavate, excavations can be very costly and cause disruption, this process ensured cost savings for the client.

Using the latest ATEX Zone 1 Rated crawler unit we were able to inspect the drainage pipes underground using the video technology of the crawler unit fed back to a monitor positioned at the manhole and controlled by a trained drainage engineer. The CCTV survey identified a range of patch repair requirements that were installed in pipes with diameters from 100mm clay and plastic pipework, up to 600mm concrete pipes.

The no dig technology uses a smaller pipe that expands with gas to fix the protecting seal to the inside of the damaged pipe, creating a sealed pipe within a damaged pipe. Once the protecting seal is set to the pipe we can remove the operators and inspect the work using the crawler unit ensuring the pipe is completely sealed.

A robotic cutter was used to trim back pipework where required to ensure a smooth flow after installation. It was also used to re-open any connecting pipe openings that were patched over in order to cover all defects in the line.

These repairs improve structural integrity and extend the lifespan of the pipework. It was important to carry out these repairs before the resurfacing work commenced, preventing water damage to a freshly laid surface, or should the repairs have been severe and required excavation excavating a freshly laid surface.

An NMC supervisor monitored the progress of these repairs and liaised with Site Manager to ensure the smooth running of the project. With NMC’s two new fully equipped drainage vans on site, the works were completed to schedule and with minimal disruption.

A CCTV survey report showing every repair installed is supplied to the customer. Using the latest drainage software Wincan, the survey illustrates with photographs the repairs along with the video footage.
